Netflix has greenlit the project as an eight-episode limited series with the original stars, including Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd and many others, back together.

AceShowbiz - "Wet Hot American Summer" revival is officially a go at Netflix after months of negotiations. Deadline reports that the streaming giant has given a greenlight to an 8-episode limited series based on the 2001 comedy film.

The original cast, including Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Christopher Meloni, Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, David Hyde Pierce, Janeane Garofalo, Ken Marino, Zak Orth, Joe Lo Truglio and many others, return for the limited series.

The project, which was initially envisioned as a sequel series, was created by David Wain and Michael Showalter who wrote the movie. Details of the limited series are still kept under wraps, but filming has reportedly begun this week.

Netflix declined to comment on the news. At the TCA's press tour on Wednesday, January 7, Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos played coy when asked about the planned revival, "We're really excited about the proposition of getting that show together. Stay tuned."

The movie took place on the last day at a fictional Jewish summer camp in 1981. It was a box-office flop and was butchered by critics, but the movie went on to become a cult classic and the stars, which were relatively new at the time, later become big stars.
