Jolie and her children meet with the head of the Catholic Church after she hosted a private screening of her movie for priests and nuns at the Vatican.

AceShowbiz - Angelina Jolie has met the Pope. She met the head of the Catholic Church after the screening of her movie "Unbroken" which tells the inspiring story of American Olympian Louis Zamperini who survived plane crash and endured unspeakable tortures in Japanese camp of war.

The UN ambassador hosted the special event with Zamperini's son Luke on January 8 for the Political Academy of Sciences. Pope Francis, 78, was expected to attend the Thursday screening, but he was unable to make time to watch the film with priests and nuns in a patrician villa at the Vatican.

The actress-turned-director met the Pope later afterwards in the throne room at the papal palace. During the short meet-and-greet, she kissed the Pope's ring and received a rosary from him. She was joined by her brother, her two eldest daughters Zahara and Shiloh, and an interpreter.

"Being invited with my film to the Vatican is an honor and a great tribute to the story that I have told in Unbroken," she said. "The story of the hero Louis a great example of strength and forgiveness."

Jolie's husband Brad Pitt was originally scheduled to accompany her on the Thursday trip to Rome, but he couldn't make it.
