The screenings of the movie starring Seth Rogen and James Franco including the one in New York were scrapped after hackers threatened terror attack.

AceShowbiz - The upcoming premiere of Seth Rogen and James Franco-starring comedy "The Interview" at Sunshine Cinema has been axed. The movie was supposed to be screened on Thursday, December 18, but Landmark who owns the New York theater has decided to cancel it.

Carmike Cinemas also makes the same decision, The Hollywood Reporter learn. They decide not to show "The Interview" in any of their venues. Carmike's headquarters are based in Columbus, Ga. The company operates 278 theaters and 2,917 screens in 41 states.

Although the cancellation was not made by Sony, it gets their support. Executives at the studio have given theater owners their blessing to scrap the screening of the movie about Kim Jong-Un assassination after hackers who were apparently backed by North Korea vowed a 9/11-style attack.

"The Interview" is due in North America December 25. Rogen and Franco have stopped doing publicity for the film in the wake of the serious terror threats, canceling their scheduled appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and "Late Night with Seth Meyers".
