K. Dot talks about his Compton roots and why he prefers to be called a writer instead of rapper before performing the new track produced by Astronote.

AceShowbiz - Kendrick Lamar was the final musical guest on "The Colbert Report". The rapper treated viewers to a never-heard-before song during his appearance on the chat show on Tuesday night, December 16

The track, currently untitled, was produced by Astronote. Rocking his braids, K. Dot spitted every bar on the track while being backed by Bilal, Thundercat, Anna Wise and saxophonist Terrance Martin.

Lamar is currently working on his sophomore album, a follow-up to 2012's Grammy-winning "good kid, m.A.A.d city". It's currently unknown if the newly-debuted song would appear alongside the hit "i" on the LP that's expected to arrive sometime in 2015.

Before the performance, host Stephen Colbert had a brief interview with Lamar and jokingly told him to "keep in mind Paul McCartney, R.E.M., Jack White and Nas were your opening acts." They also talked about K. Dot's Compton roots and why he prefers to be called a writer, not a rapper.

"I pride myself on that. It's more storytelling than actually rhyming words together," he explained.
