Mark Wahlberg Explains His Reason to Seek Pardon Over 1988 Case
Celebrity

The 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' actor says he has 'a huge amount of remorse' and has done 'tons of work to better myself as a person, not as a celebrity.'

AceShowbiz - Mark Wahlberg explained his reason to seek a pardon for assaults he committed in 1988. In an interview with E! News, Mark said, "I've been spending the past 27 years trying to correct the mistakes that I've made."

"I'm not trying to gain a pardon because I feel like, well, now I'm rich and successful. I didn't ask for it five years, 10 years, 20 years, 25 years after the fact," he continued, "I feel like I have now gotten to a place where not only did I have a huge amount of remorse but I have done tons of work to better myself as a person, not as a celebrity."

Mark said he wanted to be a positive influence for his children. "This something that I lived, you know, growing up in the street. Now I can be a positive influence in kids' lives. I just hope that, you know, I can be recognized for that. If not, I will continue to do that," he shared.

"For me, it always kinda goes back to having God in my life and I have that joy and I have that appreciation, I have gratitude," the "Ted" actor added, "So that allows me to get up every day, inspires me to work harder at being a better person, a better father, a better husband, better at what I do, to appreciate and cherish the opportunities that I've had, considering all the things that I've gone through in my life and how many people that I know that aren't as fortunate as me."

In other news, one of Mark's victims named Johnny Trinh has spoken out to forgive the actor in an interview with Mail Online. While report said Mark caused the victim blind, Johnny said Mark's assault didn't cause any lasting damage on him. "I was not blinded by Mark Wahlberg," the Vietnamese-born man explained, "He did hurt me, but my left eye was already gone. He was not responsible for that."

Johnny has forgiven Mark. "He was young and reckless but I forgive him now," he said, "Everyone deserves another chance. I would like to see him get a pardon. He should not have the crime hanging over him any longer."

He even wanted to meet Mark to tell him that he didn't bear a grudge against him. "He paid for his crime when he went to prison. I am not saying that it did not hurt when he punched me in the face, but it was a long time ago. He has grown up now. I am sure he has his own family and is a responsible man."
