The Man of Steel origin story will take place years before the Superman legend we know and center on his grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton.

AceShowbiz - Another comic book show is coming to the small screen. Syfy is teaming up with "Man of Steel" writer David S. Goyer to develop Superman origin story called "Krypton", which "takes place years before the Superman legend we know, when the House of El was shamed and ostracized."

According to the logline, the drama "follows The Man of Steel's grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known."

Goyer, whose credits also include "Batman Begins", "Da Vinci's Demons" and "Constantine", will executive produce the new project along with Ian Goldberg ("Once Upon a Time", "FlashForward"). Goldberg will additionally pen the script.

"Krypton" is in the same vein as FOX's "Gotham", which centers on Jim Gordon and features young Bruce Wayne before he became Batman. Previously, a Superman prequel series "Smallville" aired on The CW and became a hit before gradually losing its viewers and getting axed after 10 seasons in 2011.
