'The Newsroom' Series Finale Preview: A Funeral
TV

Will and Mac ponder the milestones that transformed the newsroom, while Maggie and Jim are getting closer.

AceShowbiz - Will and his "News Night" crew bid farewell to a co-worker before "The Newsroom" ends next week. Following the sudden death of [SPOILER ALERT!] Charlie Skinner in the penultimate episode, they will pay final respect to the News Director in the series finale.

A preview for the said episode has been released and it looks somber. Jim and Maggie are talking about their relationship, while Don tells Will that he thinks Will should know the truth about something. "I can't believe he's not here for this," Will says.

"What Kind of Day Has It Been" will air Sunday, December 14 at 9 P.M. on HBO. According to the synopsis, "a sudden death leads Will and Mac to ponder the milestones that transformed the newsroom, and look ahead towards ACN's uncertain future. Maggie lands a field-producer interview in Washington; Neal's digital site is shut down for repairs; Leona offers sage advice to Pruit."

Meanwhile, Sam Waterston has talked about his character Charlie's death. While admitting that "it was a surprise," he totally supported Aaron Sorkin's decision to end Charlie's storyline. "I have no quibbles with how his journey ended. Aaron Sorkin is, to say the least of it, a very special writer and he just made a person and let me pretend to be him. I have no complaints," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

He recalled the filming of Charlie's death, "The day that Charlie bit the bullet, when I came in, I really couldn't look at any of the other actors because they were all so sorry to see Charlie go. It was completely the wrong emotional world to be in to play that last scene. I couldn't look at them; I didn't look around."

Charlie will still be seen in the last episode in some flashbacks. "It was like the ghost of Christmas past. Instead of it being Marley's ghost, it's Charlie's ghost," he jokingly said about his scenes in the series finale.
