Officials at Toho Co. have announced that they are making a 'Godzilla' movie, the first Japanese take on the monster in 12 years.

AceShowbiz - Toho is going to create the first Japanese take on "Godzilla" movie in 12 years. The company announced the new project on Sunday, December 7, saying that it would be released in 2016. "We have received earnest requests for the revival from fans. We want to begin production as early as next summer," the company said.

The last "Godzilla" movie by Toho was "Godzilla: Final Wars" which was released in 2004. This year, the Hollywood version of the movie, "Godzilla", enjoyed massive success at the U.S. box office, garnering $93.1 million in its first week. A follow-up to the movie is planned for release in summer 2018.

"This is very good timing after the success of the American version this year: if not now, then when? The licensing contract we have with Legendary places no restrictions on us making domestic versions," a Toho staffer said, as quoted by THR.

Toho first released the Godzilla movie in 1954. So far, there is no info regarding the cast, budget or director for the upcoming project which will be the 29th installment of Godzilla film.
