NBC's latest holiday musical special drew 9.1 million viewers which is less than half of the people watching last year's holiday special.

AceShowbiz - NBC failed to repeat the success of "The Sound of Music Live!" with its follow-up. "Peter Pan Live!" couldn't fly high despite all the buzz surrounding the show before its premiere on Thursday night, December 4.

The latest holiday musical special starring Allison Williams and Christopher Walken garnered 9.1 million viewers and a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating, down more than 50 percent from "Sound of Music" which drew 18.5 million viewers and a 4.6 rating in the coveted demo last year.

Still, NBC is proud of the show's performance, noting that "Peter Pan" won the night in the 18-49 group with its 2.3 rating. "We're very pleased with the 'Peter Pan' ratings and it was a great night for NBC," NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt says. "We won every hour, which hasn't happened on Thursday with entertainment programming since a year ago."

He adds, "We didn't expect to reach the same rating as 'The Sound of Music' since that was the first live movie event of its kind in over 50 years. But the high wire act of 'Peter Pan' was a joy for everyone involved and I take my hat off to Allison Williams, Christopher Walken, the entire company, and our incredible directors and producers for three months of the hardest work I've ever seen. I love these live events and we're already working on putting the next one together."
