The 'Gang Related' alum is to play a good man and a single father to a teenage son in the zombie apocalypse companion series.

AceShowbiz - "The Walking Dead" spin-off has found its central character. "Gang Related" star Cliff Curtis has been cast as the male lead in the pilot from Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson.

Reports suggested that Curtis would play Sean Cabrera, a single father to "whip-smart and rebellious" teenage son. He is described as "a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life" including his ex-wife Andrea.

Casting is still underway for the female lead Nancy Tompkins aka "a thirtysomething single mom to two kids" who "looks like the girl next door, but there's an edge to her." She is a guidance counselor who works at the school with Sean. Anna Torv reportedly was one of the actresses eyed for the role but she is no longer in consideration.

Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey were the first two names announced to join the spin-off cast. It is presumed that they will play brother and sister, children to Nancy. Nick is a screwed up teenage son who is too old to stay home, but too scared to flee while Ashley is mostly level-headed teenage daughter, whose ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother's failures.

The yet-titled series will take the same outset of zombie apocalypse as "The Walking Dead" but at a different location. AMC has given it a pilot order but it is most likely that the network will expand it into series.
