Spotify Names Ed Sheeran 2014's Most-Streamed Artist in the World

The British superstar beats the likes of Eminem and Coldplay for the title after racking up 860 million streams worldwide.

AceShowbiz - Ed Sheeran is officially the king of streams. In a list of the most-streamed artists of 2014 released by Spotify on Wednesday, December 3, the British star comes at No. 1 with more than 860 million streams worldwide. His latest album, "X", is also the most steamed album in the world with 430 million streams since its release in June.

Sheeran beats huge names like Eminem, Coldplay and Katy Perry for the most-streamed artist in the world title. Responding to the feat, he said, "It's a great thing to be above so many amazing artists who I'd assume would be streamed more than me."

On Wednesday, Spotify also revealed its list of the most-streamed songs in 2014. Pharrell Williams' "Happy" claims the top slot with more than 260 million plays globally. Behind the Oscar-nominated hit are Clean Bandit's "Rather Be" and Calvin Harris' "Summer".

The streaming service additionally announced Perry and Coldplay as the most streamed female and group around the world, respectively, in 2014.

In the U.S., Eminem is the most-streamed artist while Iggy Azalea's collaboration with Charli XCX "Fancy" is the most-streamed track. The Australian raptress' album "The New Classic" is the second-most streamed album behind Sheeran's "X".
