Lucasfilm's Animated Musical 'Strange Magic' Debuts First Trailer

Channeling popular songs from the past 60 years, the animation focuses on the rivalry between fairies and goblins.

AceShowbiz - Lucas Film is moving at a light speed on the development of "Strange Magic". Less than two weeks after revealing the secret project, the studio released the first trailer to the animated musical comedy.

The pic is a madcap fairytale musical featuring "popular songs from the past six decades." It tells a story of a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion.

The trailer shows two worlds that collide after "someone" crosses over the line. "That was the ugliest creature ever seen! And it was naked!" one of the fairies says about the goblin. It features Smash Mouth's "All-Star" somewhere in the middle of the trailer. Words are the film would also utilize songs by Heart, Deep Purple and Elvis Presley.

George Lucas conceived the story inspired by "Midsummer Night's Dream". Gary Rydstrom directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with David Berenbaum ("Elf") and Irene Mecchi ("The Lion King"). Music and composition were provided by Marius de Vries ("Moulin Rouge"). Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming are among the voice cast.

"Strange Magic" arrives in theaters January 23, 2015.
