BET's '106 and Park' to End On-Air Run in December

The music variety show will last air on BET December 19 before moving to digital platform in 2015.

AceShowbiz - After 14 years, "106 & Park" will end its run on BET. The channel announced the cancellation on Friday, November 14, saying that the last on-air TV episode would be on December 19 and the show would be reformatted to become a digital-only series. "After 14 yrs as America's #1 music show on BET, #106andPark is blazing a new trail as a digital brand and will exit as a daily TV show," BET said in a tweet.

The channel also released a statement which read, "The '106 & Park' brand remains strong and will continue to produce various specials throughout the year, including its annual New Year's Eve show, '106 & Party', along with live event experiences at the BET Awards and BET Experience. In 2015, '106 & Park' looks forward to continuing its reign as the hottest hangout on one of the coolest digital platforms, BET.com."

BET's President of Music Programming and Specials Stephen Hill said, "It'll be very exciting to connect with the millions of people that are already engaged with '106 & Park' and other BET digital and social media entities and bring content that will further evolve the '106 & Park' brand - and enhance the overall BET Networks brand. As we transition to the digital space, we look to continue '106 & Park' 's role as both a leader of and a mirror to youth culture. We'll have more information to share about how that is to roll out very soon."

Since it debuted in 2000, "106 & Park" has as been the top music variety show on cable among viewers ages 18 to 49. Currently hosted by Canadian singer Keshia Chante and American rapper/actor Shad Moss a.k.a. Bow Wow, the show has welcomed guests such as Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, First Lady Michelle Obama and Rihanna.
