Disney CEO personally announced the project which story will pick up right after the end of 'Toy Story 3'.

AceShowbiz - Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger announced on Thursday, November 6 that a fourth "Toy Story" film is happening. Iger revealed the project to Wall Street analysts as he presented the company's fourth quarter and fiscal year results.

In his announcement, Iger confirmed that John Lasseter would return to direct "Toy Story 4". Lasseter directed the first and second "Toy Story" films and handed over the duty for the third film to Lee Unkrich. Iger also revealed that the fourth film would be released on June 16, 2017.

"We love these characters so much; they are like family to us," Lasseter said in a press release. "We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what's gone before." The upcoming Pixar film will pick up right after the beloved toy characters were handed down to a little girl named Bonnie.

The story is conceived by Lasseter, Unkrich, "Finding Nemo" scribe Andrew Stanton and "Up" director Pete Docter. However, actress Rashida Jones and her screenwriting partner Will McCormack will pen the script. The writing duo wrote 2012's indie comedy "Celeste and Jesse Forever".

" 'Toy Story 3' ended Woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another 'Toy Story' movie," Iger said. "But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie - and I wanted to direct it myself."
