Beyonce Knowles, Jessie J, and Idris Elba also take home an award each at the 'Music of Black Origin' event.

AceShowbiz - MOBO (Music of Black Origin) announced winners for this year's awards in a ceremony Wednesday night, October 22. Sam Smith won the most prizes, taking home at least four coveted statues including Best Song and Best Album.

"It's surreal," he gushed. "I came last year and really wanted to win best newcomer but didn't and to come back and win four awards is ridiculous. I am overwhelmed." He jokingly added, "I don't know what to do with my awards. I need to get a cabinet."

Other winners included Jessie J for Best Female, Beyonce Knowles for Best International, and Idris Elba for Best Inspiration. Musical guests included Nicole Scherzinger, Professor Green, and Tinie Tempah. Serving as hosts were Melanie B and Sarah-Jane Crawford.

Unfortunately, the awards show was marred with criticisms. Skepta who won Best Video claimed he didn't get an invitation to the ceremony and neither did Sox, a nominee in Best Grime Act. Some others complained about the sound and said the hosts had trouble with pronunciation.

There were also audience members who slammed the "music of black origin" event over the number of white award winner. "Thank God it was mainly white people winning MOBOS. For a second there, I worried black people might feel celebrated #phew," a Twitter user sarcastically tweeted.

In their defense, organizers said to BBC's Newsbeat that tickets for nominees were usually handled through the artists' record label. The organizers also insisted that sound quality was good inside the venue, but they were investigating if there were any technical issues.
