The 2005 Miss F.A.T. of 'Mo'Nique's Fat Chance' passed away after a battle against a 'rare case' of cancer since over a year ago.

AceShowbiz - Joanne Borgella, an "American Idol" alum and a "Mo'Nique's Fat Chance" graduate, passed away on Saturday, October 18. The singer and plus-sized model lost her battle against endometrial cancer. She was 32 years old.

"With heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Joanne," her family announced on Facebook. "At an early age, Joanne made a choice to serve and trust the Lord; and since her diagnosis over a year ago, Joanne made a choice to also be a fighter and share her journey with the world."

"Her faith, courage and strength were unshaken throughout every obstacle she encountered. Although our family is suffering with this great loss, we find comfort in the closeness Joanne shared with the Lord. We know her spirit still shines and will continue to live on in heaven."

Joanne said last year that her cancer was a "rare case" because it had spread to her chest. She gave fans updates on her condition in a series of Facebook videos. She wrote her last post on September 23 as she prepared for more radiation and chemotherapy.

In 2005, she competed on the "Mo'Nique's Fat Chance" to become Miss F.A.T. and became the first-ever winner on the beauty pageant. In 2008, she auditioned for Season 7 of "American Idol" and made it into the top 12 in female category.
