Lena Dunham to Adapt Young Adult Novel 'Catherine, Called Birdy'
Movie

The 'Girls' creator is working on a movie based on a book which she has been obsessed with since she was young.

AceShowbiz - Lena Dunham is bringing her favorite novel "Catherine, Called Birdy" into the big screen. During an appearance at New Yorker Festival, the "Girls" creator says she is currently working on a screenplay based on Karen Cushman's 1994 Young Adult book.

Set in 1290 England, the story revolves around 12-year-old girl who tries to dodge potential suitors when her father deems her ready for marriage. "It's hyper realistic and really pretty and it's full of incest and beatings, but it's a child's story," she gushed.

"I've been obsessed with it since I was a kid," she said. "It's a really interesting examination of sort of like coming of age and what's expected of teenage girls. I'm going to adapt it and hopefully direct it, I just need to find someone who wants to fund a PG-13 medieval movie."

Dunham previously wrote and directed dramedy "Tiny Furniture" in 2010. It won Best Narrative Feature at South by Southwest festival.
