'Gone Girl' Stays Atop of Box Office

The Ben Affleck-starring flick keeps its position at No. 1 while Luke Evans' 'Dracula Untold' enters at No. 2 with approximately $23.5 million.

AceShowbiz - "Gone Girl" has successfully defeated new releases to stay atop of the Box Office. The Ben Affleck-starring movie, which is based on a book of the same name by Gillian Flynn, remained at No. 1 at the domestic box office for the second week in a row after collecting approximately $26.8 million. So far, the David Fincher-directed flick has garnered $78.2 million in total.

Universal's "Dracula Untold", meanwhile, opened at second place after garnering an estimated $23.5 million. "It's better than anyone expected in the industry. With exit polls as strong as they were, it's promising. We're very pleased with the result," Nikki Rocco, Universal's president of domestic distribution, said. The Luke Evans-starrer pulled an average of 43 percent female, and more than 50 percent under the age of 30.

The third place was taken by "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day". The movie, starring Ed Oxenbould, Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner, debuted with an estimated $19.1 million.

"The Conjuring" spin-off "Annabelle" which placed second last week is now at the fourth spot with approximately $16.4 million. The horror flick, which cost $6.5 million to produce, has raked in $62.16 million so far. Robert Downey Jr.'s "The Judge" rounds out the top five with $13.3 million.
