Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Gambon Added to 'Dad's Army' Remake

Zeta-Jones is tapped to play a journalist who causes rift and suspicion, while Gambon will play one of the Home Guard members.

AceShowbiz - A revamped version of "Dad's Army" announces its full major lineup. The new adaptation of BBC's classic sitcom adds Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Gambon among others. They are joined by previously-confirmed cast members Bill Nighy and Toby Jones.

The original series follows Home Guard service made up of retired soldiers and civilian volunteers as they are preparing to defend Britain from invasion by Germany. It aired from 1968 to 1977, drawing nearly 20 million viewers at the peak of its success. The first film adaptation was made in 1971 with the original cast reprising their roles.

In the upcoming movie version directed by Oliver Parker ("Johnny English Reborn"), Zeta-Jones will play a journalist who visits the soldiers for an interview. The arrival of the beautiful woman stirs the blood of the men and coincides with news that a spy is on the loose.

Nighy will play Sergeant Wilson who was made famous by the late John Le Mesurier, while Jones will star as Captain Mainwaring originally played by the late Arthur Lowe. The other members of the platoon will be portrayed by Gambon, Tom Courtenay, Blake Harrison, Danny Mays and Bill Paterson.
