The Ashley Rickards-starring comedy series will return for one last run in 2015.

AceShowbiz - "Awkward" is coming to an end on MTV. The cable network confirms that it has renewed the critically acclaimed teen comedy series for a fifth season which will also be the last for the show.

MTV has not announced an episode order for season 5, but it's likely that the final installment will be split into two parts, like the third and fourth runs. The fifth season is expected to air in 2015.

The fourth season is currently airing on Tuesdays at 10/9c. The show is averaging 1.19 million total viewers in season 4 so far, down about 100,000 viewers compared with season three.

The show was left by creator/showrunner Lauren Iungerich after production wrapped on season three. Mike Chessler and Chris Albergheni were later tapped as new showrunners, but critics didn't like the new direction of the show.

The AV Club's Myles McNutt wrote after June's midseason finale, "For a show that was once committed to being about something, Awkward's fourth season has ping-ponged from storyline to storyline with no particular interest in stopping to reflect on the big picture."
