The 'Out of the Furnace' actor will star in and produce the true-story film based on Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge's book 'Boston Strong'.

AceShowbiz - Casey Affleck will next be working on a movie that's close to his home turf. The Massachusetts native is attached to star in a movie called "Boston Strong" about the tragic Boston Marathon bombings in 2013, Variety learns. He will also serve as a producer for the true-story film along with John Ridley and Dorothy Aufiero.

The movie will follow the massive manhunt to capture the culprits responsible for the bombings as well as examine the effects that the devastating incident had on the city. The script is written by "The Fighter" screenwriters Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy, based on a book by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge.

A rival project is set up at Lionsgate. It will be adapted from a book called "Stronger" by Jeff Bauman, who survived the tragic incident and lost both his legs in the attack. Scott Silver who co-wrote "The Fighter" with Johnson and Tamasy will be producing alongside "The Fighter" producers Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman.

On the small screen, the Boston marathon bombing will also be addressed on the final episodes of HBO's "The Newsroom".
