AMC 'proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series' just a few days before the fifth season premieres.

AceShowbiz - Rick Grimes' war against the undead and the living is not going to end soon. AMC had renewed "The Walking Dead" for a sixth season before the fifth season even started, the network announced on Tuesday, October 7.

"We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of 'The Walking Dead' with fans around the globe," said AMC president Charlie Collier. "In advance of Sunday's season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There's plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort."

Scott M. Gimple will return as the series' showrunner and executive producer for season six. Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse will also be back as executive producers. The late-night recap show "Talking Dead" is inevitably renewed to follow up the sixth season, which is expected to premiere in 2015.

"The Walking Dead" has become one of the most successful shows on television. It remains a number one show in the key adults 18-49 demo and is still the highest-rated show in cable history. AMC recently ordered a spin-off which features a new story and original characters from creator Robert Kirkman.

"The Walking Dead" season 5 premieres Sunday, October 12 at 9 P.M.
