Brown has been promoted to a full-fledged series regular on the upcoming show after announcing her departure from the cult comedy to care for her ailing father.

AceShowbiz - Yvette Nicole Brown has been promoted to a full-fledged series regular on CBS' "The Odd Couple" reboot, various sites report. The upgrade comes just days after the actress announced her departure from "Community" to take care of her ailing father.

Brown originally joined the upcoming show in August in a recurring role. She will play Dani, an assistant to Matthew Perry's Oscar Madison. She explained earlier this week that the multi-cam "Odd Couple" is "a better fit for the life I have now" compared to the single-cam "Community".

As for her "Community" exit, she reasoned, "My dad needs daily care and he needs me. The idea of being away 16 hours a day for five months, I couldn't do it. It was a difficult decision for me to make, but I had to choose my dad."

"Community" series creator Dan Harmon and executive producer Chris McKenna responded to her exit, "Yvette was an integral part of 'Community' and is irreplaceable. We are sad to see her go and wish her the very best."

The "Odd Couple" reboot is a new take on the 1970s TV series based on the Neil Simon-written Broadway play. Besides Perry and Brown, Thomas Lennon will star on the new show as Felix Unger, a role previously played by Tony Randall on the old series. Wendell Pierce and Lindsay Sloane are also among the cast.

"The Odd Couple" remake is slated to debut in midseason.
