Original Star William Shatner Confirms He's Contacted for 'Star Trek 3'
Movie

After initially denying the rumors, the actor who played Captain Kirk in the original movies says he told J.J. Abrams he'd be 'delighted' to reprise his role in the upcoming film.

AceShowbiz - The rumors are apparently true. There's a chance that William Shatner will appear in "Star Trek 3" as suggested by Badass Digest earlier this month. Confirming the news was none other than the actor himself.

Speaking to fans at 2014 Wizard World Nashville Comic Con on Friday, September 26, the original Captain James T. Kirk depicter said he'd been contacted about potentially returning to the new movie. He recalled the phone conversation, "I'm calling because the director of Star Trek, the next movie, has had an idea where you might be involved, so I'm calling to find out whether you would be interested."

He said he responded, "Oh, yeah. If it is meaningful, because when Leonard was Spock...in that first movie, I said to Leonard, 'You know your role, when you go back in time and you're still old.' " He added, "So, it depends on what you do with the character, I'd be delighted."

The 83-year-old said he was sworn to secrecy about his possible involvement in the film, but later "it was all over the Internet." He continued, "So the news is out that they have an idea that they want Leonard and myself...they might want Leonard and myself in it. But I would love to do it. But how do you get me fifty years later into the movie? I mean how do you rationalize it. I know it's science fiction, but even I couldn't come up with an idea. So that's the news on that."

After it was reported early last week that "Star Trek 3" would reunite Shatner and Leonard Nimoy who played Spock in the original movies and reprised the role in 2009's "Star Trek" and 2013's "Star Trek Into Darkness", the former tweeted, "Let's talk ST. I don't know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it's just rhetoric to cause hype."

Roberto Orci who takes over the helming duty from Abrams allegedly also responded to the report by saying, "Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor."

The new "Star Trek" film is slated for 2016, but no exact date is set just yet. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana who starred in the previous two films are expected to return.
