The 'Notebook' star is reportedly frontrunner for the female lead, while Taylor Kitsch is expected to score the role of the third male lead.

AceShowbiz - "True Detective" may have found the perfect choice for the female lead part in its upcoming season 2. Sources tell Variety that Rachel McAdams has been offered to star opposite the confirmed actors Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn.

Other actresses such as Rosario Dawson, Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman and most recently Keira Knightley were rumored vying for the role, but McAdams has allegedly been frontrunner for the past few weeks. Scheduling was the only main issue since the "Sherlock Holmes" star was about to film "Spotlight", but a deal has reportedly been worked out where she could do both projects.

If the Paige Collins of "The Vow" is indeed signing up for "True Detective", she may play Ani Bezzerides, "a tough, no-nonsense Monterey sheriff whose troubled upbringing has driven her to gambling and alcohol."

Meanwhile, Taylor Kitsch is said close to landing the third male lead. He's said up for the role of Paul Woodrugh, "a handsome, 28-year-old military veteran who has seen his own share of violence and destruction."

HBO has officially announced that Farrell will star as Ray Velcoro, "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him," while Vaughn will portray Frank Semyon, "a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner."

Justin Lin will direct the first two episodes as Cary Fukunaga who directed the whole first season won't return for the second installment.

While rumors have been swirling around about the cast of season 2, Kate Mara and Ellen Page spoof the first season in a new Funny or Die video. In the sketch titled "Tiny Detectives", the two actresses play detectives who are too short to reach shelves, see evidence and punch someone across the table.
