The 'Total Recall' actor confirms he will star in the next installment of the anthology series.

AceShowbiz - It's official; Colin Farrell will star on "True Detective" season 2. The Irish actor confirms his casting himself, telling Irish newspaper The Sunday World, "I'm doing the second series. I'm so excited."

He doesn't reveal his role or other details about the upcoming season as he claims that he knew "very little" about season 2. TheWrap previously reported that the "S.W.A.T." actor would portray one of the main characters, Ray Velcoro, "who has been damaged by years of turmoil in both his personal and professional lives."

Other stars linked to the male lead roles are Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn. Meanwhile, Elisabeth Moss, Rachel McAdams, Jessica Biel, Rosario Dawson, Malin Akerman , Jaimie Alexander, Kelly Reilly, Brit Marling and Oona Chaplin have all been rumored in contention for the female lead role.

Back in August, HBO programming director Michael Lombardo shared, "We're going to start shooting in September for it to air next summer. [It has] different characters, a different setting. It's set in California, all of California. There are three cops. One of the characters is female. I think that's probably all I'm allowed to say. We'll probably be announcing casting soon."

Teasing the plot, he said, "It's still dark. Nic [Pizzolatto, series creator] explores the darkness in people's souls. ... It's not as dark, but it's not a light ride. Nic likes looking into the crevices of the soul."

Emmy winner Cary Fukunaga who directed the whole season 1 won't return behind the lens. "Fast and Furious" helmer Justin Lin will reportedly direct the first two episodes of the second season.
