It is less than a year away that 'The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials' will hit theaters with many of the original cast and crew returning.

AceShowbiz - After revealing months ago that "The Maze Runner" sequel was in the works, Twentieth Century Fox put a date on the release plan. Titled "The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials", the young adult movie will hit theaters on September 18, 2015, on the same weekend the first movie was released.

Wes Ball is scheduled to return as director, working from the screenplay written by T.S. Nowlin. Dylan O'Brien will reprise his role as Thomas. Ball revealed at this year's San Diego Comic-Con that filming would begin in fall 2014.

As the title suggests, the sequel will be based on the second book in the series written by James Dashner. It follows the immediate aftermath of the events that take place in the Glade, a dystopian world where a group of boys lose their memories and are placed inside a maze they must work to solve.

"The Maze Runner" topped the weekend box office with $32.5 million domestically and pulled in an additional $37.6 million overseas. On September 18, 2015, "The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials" will open against "Everest (2015)" which stars Josh Brolin, and Johnny Depp's untitled Whitey Bulger biopic.
