Lady GaGa Responds to 'ARTPOP' Flop, Says She 'Crashed' Last Year

In an interview with Tony Bennett to promote their joint album 'Cheek to Cheek', the New York native talks about the low sales of her 2013 set and taking a break from music last year.

AceShowbiz - Lady GaGa talked about the lukewarm response to her latest solo album "ARTPOP" as she and Tony Bennett promoted their upcoming jazz album "Cheek to Cheek" in an interview for this weekend's "Sunday Morning" on CBS. The 2013 set was considered a flop because it sold less than its predecessors, "The Fame" and "Born This Way".

"I felt like people were holding me to a pretty high standard," GaGa told CBS' Anthony Mason. "Everybody's hooting and hollering because, you know, I didn't sell 20 million records this time, which I did with my first album. And you know, it's not easy to replicate that. And you just - I don't have a formula."

Her problems didn't stop there. Still feeling the pressure from those high expectations, she "crashed" due to heavy workloads. She subsequently decided to take a break from music.

"I have to make sure everything was okay," GaGa continued. "Because it wasn't. You know, it's one thing to put a train on the tracks. But it's another thing to keep the train on the tracks. You can't just let a train out on the tracks and just run it out; it'll - I crashed."

However, working with Bennett made GaGa feel better. It made her happy. She said in previous interviews that the jazz superstar changed her life and helped her deal with the "ARTPOP" flop.

Their joint album "Cheek to Cheek", which has been in the works since 2012, will finally hit the stores on Tuesday, September 23. Mason's interview with GaGa and Bennett will be broadcast in the Sunday, September 21 episode of "Sunday Morning".
