The song, which will appear on the boyband's upcoming 'FOUR' album, was downloaded 1.1 million times in the 24 hours it was available on the five-piece's website.

AceShowbiz - One Direction's "Fireproof" has become the most downloaded song in the history. The track generated 1.1 million downloads in the 24 hours it was available for free on the boy's website on Monday, September 8.

"Fireproof", released as a gift for loyal Directioners, has topped iTunes charts in more than 60 countries. It was co-written by 1D's Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, as well as frequent collaborators John Ryan, Jamie Scott and Julian Bunetta.

It serves as the first offering, but not the first single, off the group's upcoming fourth album. Simply titled "FOUR", the follow-up to last year's chart-topper "Midnight Memories" is due out on November 17 via Syco/Colombia Records.

This is One Direction's second time to have broken a new record in less than a month. Last week, the Guinness announced the lads earned a spot in the Guinness World Records 2015 book that would be released on September 11.

They become the first act to have their first three albums debut at No. 1 on U.S. chart. Before "Midnight Memories", their first album "Up All Night" and their sophomore set "Take Me Home" also entered Billboard 200 at No. 1 back in 2012.
