'Top Gun 2' Gets Rewrite From 'The Jungle Book' Scribe
Movie

Justin Marks is hired to write the long-delayed 'Top Gun' sequel with Tom Cruise expected to return as pilot Maverick.

AceShowbiz - "Top Gun 2" is moving forward with a new writer. According to a scoop from The Hollywood Reporter, Justin Marks is tapped as a screenwriter for the sequel, taking over the job from Peter Craig, the writer behind Ben Affleck's "The Town".

The movie has been developed by the original director Tony Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer for a long time. It started to come together during the past few years with the story idea of pitting the human pilots against drones. It, however, came to a screeching halt following Scott's shocking suicide in August 2012.

In the "Top Gun" sequel, Tom Cruise is expected to reprise his role as tough pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. The actor is currently busy filming "Mission Impossible V" and is attached to "Go Like Hell" next.

Marks previously wrote "War Dogs" which Bruckheimer developed for Disney. His recent script for "The Jungle Book" at the Mouse House attracted Jon Favreau on the director seat and the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong'o and Bill Murray among the voice cast.
