Robert Downey Jr.: No Plan for 'Iron Man 4'
Movie

The actor shoots down the possibility that one of the dates Marvel had secured is for the franchise's fourth installment.

AceShowbiz - While promoting "The Judge" at the Toronto Film Festival, Robert Downey Jr. revealed what he knew about Marvel's future plan for the "Iron Man" franchise. Sadly, the actor squashed any hope that "Iron Man 4" is on the cards. "There isn't one in the pipe. No, there's no plan for a fourth 'Iron Man'," Downey told Variety.

The actor is already committed to two "The Avengers" sequels, due to be released in 2015 and 2018, but he's reluctant to suit up as Iron Man further than that. Earlier this year, he was still eager to reprise the role, telling EW "It's down to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and Ike [Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment] and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that's on us to agree or disagree. When things are going great, there's a lot of agreement."

Downey also told Screen Rant last year that he felt Tony Stark's adventure did not end in the third installment. " 'Iron Man 3' was supposed to answer all the questions for the audience, cure all of my uncomfortable moments in the past with playing this character, and get in every idea that fell by the wayside in the last three movies. And then we shot the movie and I still feel there's a couple other things we've gotta do," he said.

There had been plenty of rumors about "Iron Man 4" including the possibility of Downey being replaced by Don Cheadle who plays James Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine. When asked whether he would let somebody take over his role, Downey told Variety, "I like that the idea is that it would be up to me, like I'm casting director for Marvel."

Marvel had secured several dates up to 2019 but had not announced any of the titles. "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will hit theaters on May 1, 2015 in U.S.
