The 'Weeds' alum is reportedly eyeing the lead role in the period drama based on the poet/essayist's real-life story.

AceShowbiz - Mary-Louise Parker may return to Showtime with a new series based on the memoirs of poet/essayist Mary Karr. The cable channel is currently developing an adaptation of Karr's best-selling 1995 memoir "The Liars' Club" and its follow-ups with "Masters of Sex" EPs Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly serving as executive producers.

Parker, who starred as Nancy Botwin on Showtime's comedy "Weeds", is reportedly eyeing the lead in the hourlong period project. Should she sign up for the drama series, she will also executive produce it along with Timberman and Beverly.

"The Liars' Club" tells the story of Mary Karr's challenging childhood in the 1960s in a small industrial town in Southeast Texas with a touch of humor. The follow-ups, "Cherry" and "Lit", detail her perilous journey into adulthood and her struggles with alcoholism. Karr will adapt her books into a script for the small-screen project.

After "Weeds" ended its run in 2012, Parker starred in feature films "R.I.P.D." and "RED 2". She's recently also cast in the second season of NBC's hit drama "The Blacklist" as a mystery woman who has ties to James Spader's Red.
