Meredith finds comfort in her colleague Alex following Cristina's departure, while April tells Jackson that Derek is 'dying inside.'
Meredith and Derek's marriage is once again on the rocks in the next season of "Grey's Anatomy". A promo for the eleventh installment of the medical drama series highlights the couple's marriage issue, which begins as Meredith made it clear that she wouldn't leave Seattle and go with him to Washington.
"I don't know if my marriage can survive this," she laments as she leans on her longtime colleague Alex now that Cristina is miles away in Zurich. Meanwhile, April tells Jackson that it seems like Derek is "dying inside."
Series creator Shonda Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter about season 11, "It's really a Meredith-centric season. There's a lot of growth. She's lost her person. Her sister has showed up. Her husband is chafing to go someplace else. She's got all these things going on. Maybe that's the theme; maybe it's independence. But for me right now, it feels like it's Meredith. I'm feeling her more acutely because she's lost her person."
The long-running series returns Thursday, September 25 at 8 P.M. on ABC.
