For some reasons, NBC is not moving forward with "Emerald City". The network decided to can the Wizard of Oz-themed limited series although the Peacock had ordered it straight-to-series back in January and promoted it at the San Diego Comic-Con last month.

"Emerald City" is based on the 14-book series by L. Frank Baum that first created the Land of Oz. Described as "a modern and dark re-imagining of the classic tale of Oz in the vein of 'Game of Thrones'," the 10-episode series was to follow a 20-year-old Dorothy as she is "unwittingly sent on an eye-opening journey that thrusts her into the center of an epic and bloody battle for the control of Oz."

The book series feature lethal warriors, competing kingdoms, witches from the north and west, Dorothy's love interest Henry and the infamous wizard. Writers Josh Friedman and Matt Arnold wrote the script but sources told EW that they had creative differences with the network over the story's execution.

Although the project is dead at NBC, the developing company Universal Television still has faith in the series and may try to shop it to other networks. No actors have been cast in the series as production has not even started.
