Joan Rivers backtracked her comments about Palestinians who lost their lives during Israel's air strikes, saying that they were taken out of context. In a statement released on her Facebook on Thursday, August 7, the comedian said, "I am both saddened and disappointed that my statement about the tragedy of civilian casualties was totally taken out of context."

"What I said and stand behind is, war is hell and unfortunately civilians are victims of political conflicts," she continued. "The media, as usual, has decided to only quote the most out of context and inflammatory non sequitur rather than giving an accurate account of what my intentions were behind the statement."

The "Fashion Star" host made the comments during a brief chat with a cameraman the previous day. "When you declare war, you declare war. They started it. We now don't count who's dead. You're dead. You deserve to be dead. You started it. You started it. Don't you dare make me feel sad about that," Rivers said when she was at LAX.

"You were told to get out, you don't get out, then you know you're an idiot, and at least the ones that were killed were the ones with very low IQs," she said further.

As reported by CNN, Palestinian Ministry of Health said that per Thursday there were 1,888 people, including 446 children, died and 9,804 people were injured because of the attacks in Gaza. Israeli officials said 64 soldiers and three civilians died in the ongoing conflicts.

@ HighFunctioningSocio - USA is the one that gives Israel most of the guns/money. So yes, they would need to. And don't talk about 'defending' when 80% of the deaths are civilians...

Let me speak your language and be as equally blunt and offensive as you are, Joan: Maybe if you weren't such a raving c*nt to people 99.9% of the time, people wouldn't "take you out of context."

C'mon people. She's Joan Rivers, and that's what she does for a living? Jeeze....everybody's a defense attorney these days. And did you guys ever think that maybe Israel is sick of the Palestinians bullshit? Did you never see the attacks made by the palestinians? DId you not see the the tunnels made by the Hamas? Israel does not have to defend it's actions to anyone to take care of it's own citizens. Especially to the likes of the USA, or any other country for that matter.

Who started it? Those small children playing on the beach? The Palestinians who followed the Israeli orders to take shelter and then the Israelis bombed the shelters? The Palestinians whose homes were smeared with excrement by Israeli soldiers? How about the Palestinians whose homes, farms, and small businesses have been being bulldozed by the Israelis, did they "start it"?

Umm.... what was the context? Reading the full statement she made, it's pretty friggin' horrible no matter what side of the argument you're on. She said that the death of the civilians was not as bad because they were less intelligent, evidenced by the fact that they were dead in the first place despite warnings to flee. Pretty cut and dry. This old bag has lost the ability to tell the difference between controversy and humor.
