5 Seconds of Summer's Self-Titled Debut Album Tops Billboard 200

Selling 259,000 in its first week, the album scores the third-highest debut of 2014 and the best opening week for an artist's first LP since Daughty's self-titled set came with 304,000 back in 2006.

5 Seconds of Summer's self-titled debut album has made its way out to No. 1 on Billboard 200. Selling 259,000 in its first week, the set posts the third-highest debut of 2014, trailing behind Coldplay's "Ghost Stories" and Eric Church's "The Outsiders" which opened with 383,000 and 288,000 copies respectively.

"5 Seconds of Summer" marks the second album by an Australian act to top the chart in 2014, following Sia Furler whose "1000 Forms of Fear" hit No. 1 earlier this month. "5SOS" also logs the best opening week for an artist's first LP since November 2006, when Daughtry's self-titled debut came with 304,000.

Next on Billboard 200, the soundtrack album of "Frozen (2013)" rises to No. 2 from last week's No. 5 with 37,000. This is the set's 31st consecutive week at the chart's top 5. At No. 3, Weird Al Yankovic's "Mandatory Fun" slips from the top spot with 33,000.

Sam Smith's "In the Lonely Hour", meanwhile, jumps two rungs to No. 4 with 31,000. At No. 5, Kidz Bop Kids' "Kidz Bop 26" falls from No. 4 with 27,000.

Common becomes the second new entry in Billboard 200's top 10 as his "Nobody's Smiling" arrives at No. 6 with 24,000. That's the rapper's highest-charting album since 2007 when his "Finding Forever" opened at No. 1.

At No. 7, Crown the Empire's "The Resistance: Rise of the Runaways" sells slightly more than 24,000, giving the rock band their best sales week. The "Now 50" Album remains at No. 8 with 21,000 while Jason Mraz's "Yes!" plunges from last week's No. 2 to this week's No. 9 after selling additional 20,000. Rounding out the top 10 is Ed Sheeran's "X" that dips three rungs with slightly more than 20,000.
