Benedict Cumberbatch Addresses Doctor Strange Rumor

The 'Imitation Game' star says he is likely to turn down the role due to scheduling conflict.

AceShowbiz - Will Benedict Cumberbatch play Doctor Strange in new Marvel film? The British actor is rumored for the role along with the likes of Tom Hardy and Jared Leto, and now while talking to MTV News, he responds to the casting report.

"As far as I'm aware, even if that was the case, it couldn't work out because I'm doing a little play called 'Hamlet' in London. So I don't think I could even if that was in the cards. It sounds like a fantastic project. It's a shame if I miss out, but who knows?" he said.

When pressed if he at least had a meeting with Marvel, the voice of Dragon Smaug in the "Hobbit" movie saga coyly said, "I couldn't possibly comment."

Scott Derrickson ("Sinister", "Deliver Us from Evil") is confirmed to direct the film. Jon Spaihts, who co-wrote Ridley Scott's "Prometheus", is hired to complete the initial draft written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.
