The actor won't reprise his role as the deceased Will Gardner but will go behind the lens instead.

AceShowbiz - Josh Charles is coming back to "The Good Wife" but not as the ghost of Will Gardner. The actor is brought back to direct an upcoming episode of the CBS drama, TV Line reports.

Charles' character was shot and killed in the courtroom by his client Jeffrey Grant in the fifth season, sending shock to the show's fans. However, the dearly departed actor is still very much attached to the production. After directing an episode in season 4 and another two in season 5, Charles is trusted to direct another one for the upcoming sixth season.

The new season, which premieres September 21 at 9/8c, will see the continuation of Florrick/Agos empire. Diane Lockhart decided to leave her old company to join Alicia's new firm. Taye Diggs has been cast as Dean Levine-Wilkins, an equity partner who follows the footsteps of Lockhart.

Charles recently received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor .
