Death Grips Announces Disbandment

In a message posted on their Facebook page, the experimental hip-hop group says that they're canceling their upcoming shows but the second half of their double album will still arrive later this year.

Death Grips is dead. The experimental hip-hop group announced their disbandment in a message posted on their Facebook page on Wednesday, June 2. In the statement, written on a napkin, the trio said they'd "officially stopped" and canceled all their upcoming shows.

"We are now at our best and so Death Grips is over. We have officially stopped," they wrote. "All currently scheduled live dates are canceled. Our upcoming double album 'The Powers That B' will still be delivered worldwide later this year via Harvest/Third Worlds Records."

"Death Grips was and always has been a conceptual art exhibition anchored by sound and vision. above and beyond a 'band.' To our truest fans, please stay legend," they added.

The break-up news came just a month after Death Grips released their surprise album, "N***as on the Moon". The record, which features samples of Bjork's vocals, serves as the first half of the double album mentioned by the group in their farewell note.

Death Grips, including members Stefan Burnett a.k.a. MC Ride, Andy Morin and Zach Hill, was formed in 2010. In their four-year existence, the group made several headlines for abruptly canceling their shows and leaking their own album "No Love Deep Web" without label Epic Records' consent. The major label subsequently dropped the trio.
