The videos from some major artists could disappear from YouTube in the near future. The video-sharing site, which is owned by Google, has confirmed that they're now readying a paid subscription service that will allow paying viewers to enjoy ad-free music and videos.
According to YouTube's head of content and business operations Robert Kyncl, about 90% of all labels in the music industry has agreed with the company's plan. He then reveals that labels which do not comply with the new terms will have their artists' videos removed "in the coming days."
"While we wish that we had 100% success rate, we understand that is not likely an achievable goal and therefore it is our responsibility to our users and the industry to launch the enhanced music experience," Kyncl has told the Financial Times.
Among those who disagree with YouTube's new service are the labels that signed Adele, Arctic Monkeys and others.
WIN, the representative for many independent record labels, released a statement to the press on Wednesday, June 18. "We have tried and will continue to try to help YouTube understand just how important independent music is to any streaming service and why it should be valued accordingly. Music fans want a service that offers the complete range of music available," they stated.
