The fiancee of Brad Pitt says a scene where Maleficent's wings are ripped off while she is in a drug-induced sleep is 'a metaphor for rape.'

AceShowbiz - Angelina Jolie compares a brutal scene in her latest movie "Maleficent" to rape. The UNHCR special envoy explains in an interview with BBC Radio's Woman's Hour the meaning behind a scene in which her character's wings are torn off by a childhood friend in a drug-induced sleep.

"We were very conscious, the writer [Linda Woolverton] and I, that it was a metaphor for rape," the mother of one stated. "This would be the thing that would make her lose sight." She said, "At a certain point, the question of the story is what could possibly bring her back?"

"The core of [the film] is abuse, and how the abused have a choice of abusing others or overcoming and remaining loving, open people," she added. "The question was asked, 'What could make a woman become so dark? To lose all sense of her maternity, her womanhood, and her softness?' "

While in London, the fiancee of Brad Pitt delivered a speech in front of more than 300 international government ministers at Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict. "We must send a message across the world that there is no disgrace in being a survivor of sexual violence - the shame is on the aggressor," she said.
