Mark Rylance

The 'Twelfth Night' star eyes a role in the fact-based movie which is expected to have Tom Hanks playing the lead role.

Mark Rylance who just won his third Tony Award for his impressive performance in the play "Twelfth Night" is in negotiations to join Tom Hanks in an untitled Cold War movie. Directed by Steven Spielberg, it's a historical film set during the height of political tensions between the U.S. and Russia.

The historical flick is based on the true story of American attorney, James Donovan, enlisted by CIA during the Cold War to negotiate the release of a pilot who was captured after his U-2 spy plane was shot down over Russia. Matt Charman writes the script, and Marc Platt will produce with Spielberg.

Rylance, 54, stars in indie drama "Days and Nights", which was screened during the 25th Anniversary Palm Springs International Film Festival last January, alongside the likes of Katie Holmes and William Hurt. He will next appear in a thriller "The Gunman" starring Sean Penn, Idris Elba, Javier Bardem, and Ray Winstone.
