Singer Jerry Vale Dies at 83
Vale, who was popular in the 1950s and 1960s with his song 'You Don't Know Me' among others, passed away at his Palm Desert home surrounded by family and friends.


Popular 1950s singer Jerry Vale, who probably is mostly remembered for his song "You Don't Know Me", has passed away. He was 83. According to a statement to media, which is delivered via a Los Angeles lawyer Harold Levy, Vale passed away surrounded by his family and friends on Sunday, May 18 at his home in Palm Desert, California, at 9:45 A.M. Vale had a stroke a few years ago and his health had been declining since then.

Vale was born Genaro Louis Vitaliano in New York on July 8, 1930. He started singing when he was a teenager and released more than 50 albums during his singing career. The romantic pop singer was popular for his renditions of "Volare", ''Innamorata" and "Al Di La" among others.

His songs "Pretend You Don't See Me" and "Love Me the Way I Love You" were featured in Martin Scorsese's "GoodFellas" and "Casino" respectively. Vela also made appearances in the projects in addition to "The Sopranos".

Vale is survived by his wife of 55 years, a daughter, a son and a grandson.
