AMC has offered the first glimpse at "The Walking Dead" season 5 via a photo. The picture doesn't reveal much but shows Rick peering out of what seems to be a train car where he and other survivors were locked up at the end of season 4.
Throughout the fourth season, Rick transformed from a leader to a farmer, but it appears that the old Rick was back by the end of the season. Speaking of this, creator Robert Kirkman said, "Rick Grimes' evolution has come at the exact right point. This is the Rick Grimes that they need in that train car. And this is the Rick Grimes that the people of Terminus should not have encountered."
He went on telling Entertainment Weekly, "It is the exact wrong time for them to encounter this guy. So it is supposed to be a somewhat uplifting kind of cliffhanger because you should get a sense that this guy is now ready for anything. He can handle absolutely whatever the word is going to throw at him and that is something we're going to be exploring in season 5."
Asked if the guys who captured Rick and friends in Terminus are a new version of the group of Cannibals in the comics, Kirkman coyly replied, "Stay tuned for season 5!...We'll be revealing very quickly what it is that is going on and what it is that Rick Grimes and everybody else are up against. We're not going to be keeping that close to the vest for too very long. So in our big season 5 premiere we'll get some answers."
He, however, did say that Gareth who's leading the Terminus group was based "on someone in the comics." He teased, "So there are some pieces of him in the comic book series that you could dig out if you were a bit of a detective, and we'll definitely reveal more next season. He's a big character."
Meanwhile, star Norman Reedus who plays Daryl Dixon recently said the upcoming season would be "just completely insane." He added, "The storyline they're throwing me is a thousand miles an hour."
"The Walking Dead" will return with the new season in October. Seth Gilliam has been added to the cast ensemble for season 5.
