FOX Cancels 'Almost Human' After Only One Season

The network has decided not to pick up the sci-fi series from J.J. Abrams for a second season.

"Almost Human" doesn't live long. The sci-fi series from executive producer J.J. Abrams has got the axe after only 13-episode season 1. The season finale, which is now also the series finale, aired in early March.

FOX heavily promoted the drama which boasted the performance of "Star Trek" actor Karl Urban, who's paired with Michael Ealy. The show's set 35 years in the future, when police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids. Urban played a cop who recently woke up from a 17-month coma and is partnered with Dorian (Ealy), a discontinued android with unexpected emotional responses.

The rookie series had a strong start with 9.2 million viewers (3.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demo) tuning into the series premiere on November 17. The number dropped to 6.8 million viewers and a 2.3 rating when it launched in its regular Monday slot. The last episode averaged 5.63 million viewers and a 1.5 rating.
