AceShowbiz - "Game of Thrones" returned with a bang. The highly-anticipated season 4 of the HBO series kicked off on Sunday, April 6 with "Two Swords", which drew 6.6 million viewers. With two encores that night, the episode posted a total of 8.2 million people.
It was a huge surge compared to last season's premiere, which lured 4.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched episode for the series. The number also marks the largest audience for HBO since the series finale of "The Sopranos", which posted 11.9 million viewers in 2007.
Due to heavy demand for the first episode of "Game of Thrones" season 4, HBO Go crashed on Sunday night. "HBO Go did experience issues due to overwhelming demand around the premiere of Game of Thrones," the network explained in a statement.
The problem was solved within hours, with the network informing viewers via Twitter, "Thanks for your patience #GOT fans. The service is now restored."
Less than a month ago, the streaming platform experienced the same issue during the March 9 finale of "True Detective".
