Only 10 girls perform on Tuesday, February 18, while the other 5 girls are eliminated immediately after the 'Boot Camp' with Randy Jackson.
"American Idol" season 13 revealed its latest twist on Tuesday, February 18. The latest episode, which introduced Randy Jackson's "Boot Camp" and featured Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry as mentors, focused on the Top 15 girls, but only 10 of them got a chance to sing.
The judges called out those who got to perform one at a time. Majesty Rose was up first. During the workshop, Adam said Majesty's song choice, Pharrell Williams' "Happy", didn't let her show off her voice. But the judges loved the performance, with Keith Urban saying that the song brought out her best breezy qualities, and "within that song, there were moments of your vocal range that we're going to see a lot more as we go along."
Kristen O'Connor was called out next. Chris gave her tips about working with the camera, but it's her nerves and jitters that plagued her rendition of Adele's "Turning Tables". Jennifer Lopez pointed out, "The timing was off with the band," but she and Keith agreed that the performance wasn't up to her usual standards.
Briana Oakley chose Demi Lovato's "Warrior". J.Lo compared her range and voice to "a young Whitney Houston," while Harry Connick Jr. reminded her not to use high notes for cheap applause from the audience. "Be wary of that, because it happens every season on Idol... It can be a trap," he warned Briana.
Jena Irene went with "Paint It Black" by The Rolling Stones, but Harry thought she didn't understand the meaning of the song. Though her performance wasn't impressive enough, J.Lo and Keith still said she was one of their favorites.
Bria Anai wanted to be remembered as "the girl with the lips" rather than for her voice. She sang "Wrong Side of a Love Song" by Melanie Fiona. Harry thought it was too "shouted" and he got booed by the audience. J.Lo said she got carried away when the audience did, but called her a star anyway.
Keith introduced Marrialle Sellars as someone who looked like a star, but she disappointed the judges again. Her performance of "Roar" by Katy Perry was a mess with Keith saying, "It all came off too karaoke, baby."
Jessica Meuse covered "Drink a Beer" by Luke Bryan. J.Lo said, "Your country tone is really appealing to me," but Harry said he didn't feel a connection to the performance. Keith, meanwhile, reminded her to be careful when singing a song about death and smiling.
Emily Piriz did Grace Potter and the Nocturnals' "Paris (Ooh La La)" with a full band. She showed her other side by turning into a sexy rock chick, but the judges thought she tried too hard to pretend to be something that she's not.
M.K. Nobilette chose "All of Me" by John Legend which Keith said "the perfect song choice." He called it "a really beautiful performance" as other judges gave rave reviews to her performance.
Malaya Watson was the last girl who got the chance to sing that night. She sang Ray Charles' "Hard Times (No One Knows Better Than I)", trying to combine Sly Stone with Beyonce Knowless. J.Lo gushed, "There is no doubt you are one of the powerhouse singers of this competition," while Keith praised her confidence.
With the tenth girl's performance, it meant that Andrina Brogden, Jillian Jensen, Brandy Neelly, Austin Wolfe and Kenz Hall were eliminated. Meanwhile, Ben Briley was announced as the guy who earned the last spot in the Top 30, edging out Neco Starr.
