The Ultimate Spider-Slayer is promoted to become the Director of Robotics, a position previously held by his father at the Oscorp.
Alistair Smythe becomes the main focus in Daily Bugle's latest report titled "Rats Leaving a Sinking Ship?". The villainous character will be played by B.J. Novak in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", which is due May 2 in the United States.
"Within a week of the announcement that the NYPD and the District Attorney's Office had opened an investigation into illegal activities and questionable medical practices at Manhattan's Oscorp Industries, sources indicate several of their top scientists have been asked to leave," the report reads.
It continues, "Reports cite the recent forced resignation of Dr. Spencer Smythe, the Director of Robotics, amongst others. He was seen leaving Oscorp Tower yesterday with a box of his personal belongings."
"When asked to comment on the current employment situation of Dr. Smythe, Oscorp spokesman Donald Menken had no comment. Later in the day, Oscorp sent out a press release congratulating Alistair Smythe on his promotion to the Director of Robotics formerly held by his father. How Mrs. Smythe expects this will impact holiday dinners remains unknown."
The Daily Bugle article fits Novak's previous confirmation that his character did work at Oscorp in the Marc Webb superhero movie series. In the comics, Alistair becomes the Ultimate Spider-Slayer after the first generation of spider-slayers was created by his father, Spencer.
Andrew Garfield is back as Peter Parker, and Emma Stone reprises her role as Gwen Stacy for the second film. Jamie Foxx stars as Electro, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn, and Paul Giamatti as The Rhino.
