Shia LaBeouf Denounces Retirement With 'Rock the Kasbah'

Shia LaBeouf

The 'Nymphomaniac' star joins Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson, Danny McBride, and Zooey Deschanel in the indie comedy.

Shia LaBeouf is not retiring, despite his tweet that he would "#stopcreating" and retreat from "all public life." The former "Transformers" actor who was recently embroiled in a plagiarism scandal has been signed on to star in "Rock the Kasbah", an indie comedy to be helmed by Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson.

LaBeouf is set to join the likes of Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson, Danny McBride and Zooey Deschanel in the cast ensemble. "I couldn't have dreamed of a more perfect team of comic actors to round out this wickedly funny and heartfelt film," said Levinson in a statement.

Written by Mitch Glazer, it will follow Richie Vance, a has-been rock manager who takes his last remaining client on a USO tour of Afghanistan. When he finds himself in Kabul, abandoned, penniless and without his passport, he discovers a young girl with an extraordinary voice and manages her through Afghanistan's version of "American Idol", the wildly popular "Afghan Star".

LaBeouf was last seen on the U.S. big screen in "Charlie Countryman". His next film "Nymphomaniac" will release its first part in theaters Stateside in March before following it with the second chapter in April. He is also among the cast members of David Ayer's war film "Fury" along with Brad Pitt, Logan Lerman and Michael Pena.
