The promotional spot prompts question whether the film will stay close to the comic book when it comes to Emma Stone's character.
"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" releases Super Bowl ad ahead of the big game on February 2. Jam-packed with action scenes, the sneak peek includes a tantalizing teaser of what might happen to the superhero's high school sweetheart, Gwen Stacy, at the end of the movie.
Emma Stone who plays the blonde beauty in the film previously discussed her role in an interview with Ryan Seacrest. The "Crazy, Stupid, Love." star said, "I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen's story has closely to the comic as possible."
"Basically they're going to see the continuation of the Spider Man story, which is the hero's journey, and he's up against a whole new squadron of villains and he's struggling with promises he's made in the last movie and the consequences of making those and what it's like to be in love with somebody who you promised to not see anymore."
In a separate chat with Interview magazine, she uttered, "Essentially the argument is that Spider-Man kills her by accident, so the person she loves is the person who kills her, which is the most horrifying thing. Apparently people unsubscribed to the comic book when that happened because they were just so flipped-out over it. But, of course, I want to stay true to that."
The sequel is due in the United States on May 2, 2014. Andrew Garfield is back as Peter Parker. Jamie Foxx stars as Electro, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn and Paul Giamatti as The Rhino.
Felicity Jones, meanwhile, is signed on for an unspecified role. "It's all quite shrouded in secrecy," she once said, "but I'm the Goblin's girlfriend - I'm in a relationship with him, and his accomplice. I'm on the dark side."
